Most windows have two jobs and only one shade to do them with. Our 5/8" Day/Night Single Cell Cellular Cordless Shades solve that by joining two different fabrics in a single continuous shade: a light filtering panel on top and a blackout panel below, divided by a slim movable middle rail. Slide that middle rail and the same window goes from soft, glowing daylight to complete darkness in seconds.
It is the most versatile shade we make, and the one that most often replaces the old workaround of hanging two treatments on one window. Built on a generous 5/8" honeycomb cell for a bolder, more architectural line and stronger insulation than our smaller-cell shades.
One Shade That Does the Work of Two

How the Middle Rail Works
The shade hangs as one continuous panel: light filtering fabric on top, blackout fabric below, with a slim color-matched middle rail where they meet. That middle rail moves, and moving it is how you change what your window does.
- Middle rail near the bottom: Light filtering fabric covers nearly the whole window. Soft, diffused daylight fills the room with daytime privacy intact. This is your everyday position.
- Middle rail near the top: The blackout panel covers nearly the whole window for full darkness. This is the sleep, nap, and movie position.
- Middle rail somewhere between: Filtered light comes in above while the blackout panel blocks the lower half. Ideal when you want daylight overhead and total privacy at eye level.
- Everything raised: Both panels stack neatly at the top for a clear, unobstructed view.
Every position is cordless. You simply move the rails by hand, and they hold wherever you leave them.

Why the 5/8" Cell Looks Different
Cell size changes the character of a shade. Our 3/8" cells give a fine, tightly ribbed texture that recedes into the window. The 5/8" cell here is noticeably larger, producing bolder horizontal lines and a more deliberate, architectural presence, the kind of detail that reads as considered rather than utilitarian.
The bigger cell also holds more air, which is why this shade insulates and quiets a room more effectively than our smaller-cell options. On a large window the wider cell is especially flattering, keeping the shade in proportion with the glass instead of looking busy.
A Realistic Note on Darkness
With the middle rail raised and the blackout panel across the glass, the fabric itself blocks light completely. As with every inside-mounted shade, a small amount of light can still edge in around the frame. For the darkest possible room, choose an outside mount with a few inches of overlap on each side and above the window. It costs nothing extra and makes a real difference in a nursery or a media room.

- Headrail: 1 7/8" deep by 1 7/8" high, with hidden brackets for a clean installation.
- Inside Mount Depth: 1 3/8" minimum (2 1/8" for a fully flush fit). Outside mount has no depth requirement.

How to Measure & Install
Taking accurate measurements is straightforward. Let us walk you through the process!
To ensure a perfect fit, keep these essential pointers in mind:
- Always use a metal measuring tape for the best accuracy; fabric tapes can stretch and lead to errors.
- If your width measurement falls on a 1/16" or 1/32" mark, round down to the nearest 1/8".
- If your height measurement lands on a 1/16" or 1/32" increment, round up to the closest 1/8".

Instructions for Inside Mounted Cellular Shades
Depth Requirements: For an inside mount, you'll need to make sure the window frame is deep enough to accommodate the cellular shade. Refer to the Product Specifications for minimum depths depending on your chosen valance option.
Measuring the width
- The width measurement is found by measuring the inside of the window frame in three locations: the top, middle, and bottom.
- Choose the smallest of these measurements.
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment, round down to the nearest 1/8".
- That's your width for your cellular shades.
Measuring the height
- The height measurement is found by measuring the inside of the window frame in three locations: the left, center, and right.
- Choose the largest of these measurements.
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment, round up to the nearest 1/8".
- That's your height for your cellular shades.
Instructions for Outside Mounted Cellular Shades
An outside mount sits outside of the window and the window frame. Because it is meant to cover the entire space of the window, you'll need to make some additions to the measurements to make sure you order the right size. Please follow the instructions below.
Measuring the width
- Measure the width of the area you want the shade to cover across the top.
- We suggest adding at least 4 inches to the width (2 inches per side) to minimize light gaps.
- That's your width for your cellular shades.
Measuring the height
- Measure the height from where you want the headrail to sit down to the window sill or desired length.
- We suggest adding at least 4 inches to the height (2 inches top, 2 inches bottom).
- That's your height for your cellular shades.
