Tailored Design & Upgrades
Elevate your interior design by adding an optional cassette valance with a matching fabric insert. This is a polished finishing touch to not only conceal the roller tube mechanism for a modern, seamless look but also help block the small sliver of light that can seep in at the top of the window.
Smooth & Reliable Lift Systems
Select the operating mechanism that fits your lifestyle:
- Cordless (Free Upgrade!): A sleek, pet-and-child-safe option that adjusts the height effortlessly without the worry of hazardous cords in your home. Enjoy this premium feature at no additional cost!
- Continuous Cord Loop (Beaded Chain): Quiet, resistance-balanced pulling for exact positioning. A time-tested, reliable standard.
- Motorized Lift: Ultimate modern convenience. Control your room’s lighting with an easy-to-use remote (up to a 65-foot range).
Blackout vs. Room Darkening: What's the Difference?
Blackout shades block 99%+ of light through the fabric, stopping light from shining through for the maximum privacy available. Room darkening shades typically block around 95%. For complete darkness, blackout is the right choice.
Note: We recommend an outside mount to minimize light gaps around the edges if you are not using curtains to complete your look. Inside mount blackout roller shades will have a small light gap on the sides to accommodate the mounting hardware.
Best Rooms for Blackout Roller Shades
- Bedrooms & Nurseries: Essential for shift workers, infants, and light sleepers to ensure restful sleep.
- Home Theaters & Media Rooms: Eliminate screen glare for a true cinematic experience.
- Energy Efficiency: Provides an extra layer of insulation to reduce heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter.
Key Considerations for the Perfect Fit
To get the absolute best blackout experience, keep these structural details in mind:
- Light Gaps: The fabric portion of an inside-mount shade will be approximately 1" to 1 ½" narrower than your ordered width to accommodate the brackets, so small light gaps on each side of the shade may occur depending on your valance choice. For maximum darkness, we recommend an outside mount.
- Roll Direction: Customize your shade's appearance by choosing a standard roll (brings the fabric closer to the glass for better light blockage), or a reverse roll (hides the roller tube for a cleaner aesthetic).
- Larger Windows: Shades over 94" wide will be "railroaded" (the fabric is turned on its side), resulting in a visible, horizontal seam. Please note that a maximum drop (height) of 84" applies to these extra-wide shades.

How to Measure & Install
Taking accurate measurements is straightforward. Let us walk you through the process!
To ensure a perfect fit, keep these essential pointers in mind:
- Always use a metal measuring tape for the best accuracy; fabric tapes can stretch and lead to errors.
- If your width measurement falls on a 1/16" or 1/32" mark, round down to the nearest 1/8".
- If your height measurement lands on a 1/16" or 1/32" increment, round up to the closest 1/8".
- Always consult the Product Specifications for the product you are measuring for. If you have questions, we will be happy to help!
Instructions for Inside Mounted Roller Shades
Depth Requirements: For an inside mount, you'll need to make sure the window frame is deep enough to accommodate the roller shade. Refer to the Product Specifications for minimum depths depending on your chosen valance option.
Measuring the width
- The width measurement is found by measuring the inside of the window frame in three locations: the top, middle, and bottom.
- Choose the smallest of these measurements.
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment, round down to the nearest 1/8".
- That's your width for your roller shades.
Measuring the height
- The height measurement is found by measuring the inside of the window frame in three locations: the left, center, and right.
- Choose the largest of these measurements.
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment, round up to the nearest 1/8".
- That's your height for your roller shades.
Instructions for Outside Mounted Roller Shades
An outside mount sits outside of the window and the window frame. Because it is meant to cover the entire space of the window, you'll need to make some additions to the measurements to make sure you order the right size. Please follow the instructions below.
Measuring the width
- Measure the width of the area you want the shade to cover across the top.
- We suggest adding at least 4 inches to the width (2 inches per side) to minimize light gaps.
- That's your width for your roller shades.
Measuring the height
- Measure the height from where you want the headrail to sit down to the window sill or desired length.
- We suggest adding at least 4 inches to the height (2 inches top, 2 inches bottom).
- That's your height for your roller shades.
