Product Information

Sheer softness. Precise control.

Our Lumi Light Diffusing Sheer Shades suspend soft fabric vanes between two layers of sheer, so you get the airy elegance of a sheer shade with the tilt control of a blind. Tilt the vanes open and daylight floods in through the sheers with a clear view out. Tilt them closed and the room fills with a soft, even glow while the outside world quietly disappears.

It is the most refined way to manage daylight in a room where the window treatment is part of the decor rather than just a fix for glare.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Floating Vane Construction: 2" fabric vanes are suspended between front and back sheer layers, giving you precise control of light and visibility from a single treatment.
  • Beautifully Diffused Light: Sunlight passes through the sheer facing and softens as it crosses the vanes, arriving as a warm, even glow with no glare or hard shadows.
  • Daytime Privacy Without Darkness: Closed vanes obscure the view inside while keeping the room bright, so you never have to choose between privacy and daylight.
  • UV Protection: The layered construction filters harsh direct sun that fades floors, art, and upholstery.
  • Durable Aluminum Rail System: A sturdy headrail and weighted bottom bar keep the shade hanging straight and operating smoothly for years.
  • Child-Safe Options: Available cordless or motorized, with no hazardous loops within reach.

How the Three-Layer Design Works

A conventional shade gives you one decision: up or down. This one gives you two, because the vanes move independently of the shade itself.

Lower the shade to cover the window, then rotate the vanes to set the mood. Fully open and the vanes sit horizontal, leaving a clear view through the sheers and maximum daylight. Partially tilted and you cut glare while keeping brightness, ideal for screens and afternoon sun. Fully closed and the vanes overlap into a continuous soft panel, giving you privacy and a gentle luminous wash across the whole window. Raise the shade entirely and it stacks compactly at the top for an unobstructed view.

Five Refined Neutrals

Available in White, Off-White, Ivory, Beige, and Pearl Grey. The cooler tones, White and Pearl Grey, keep a room feeling crisp and contemporary, while Off-White, Ivory, and Beige cast a warmer glow when the vanes are closed. Because these fabrics are translucent, the color you choose directly affects the quality of light in the room, not just the look of the window.

Pro Tip: Sheer fabrics behave completely differently with daylight behind them than in your hand. Order free samples (up to 10, shipped free) and hold each against the actual glass before deciding.

Which Sheer Is Right for Your Room?

Shade With Vanes Closed Best For
Lumi Light Diffusing (this shade) Soft, luminous glow with daytime privacy Living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, sunrooms
Lumi Light Dimming Substantially darker, with strong privacy Bedrooms, media rooms, street-facing windows
Signature Sheer Roller A single sheer panel, maximum light, minimal privacy Rooms where light and view matter most

Need more darkness and privacy from the same elegant look? See our Lumi Light Dimming Sheer Shades, which use room-darkening vanes. Prefer the simplicity of a single sheer panel? Browse our Signature Sheer Light Filtering Roller Shades.

A Note on Nighttime

Like all sheer fabrics, these provide daytime privacy rather than round-the-clock privacy. After dark with lights on inside, closed vanes will still show silhouettes. For bedrooms and street-facing windows where privacy matters at all hours, choose the Light Dimming version or pair these with drapery panels.

How to Measure & Install

Taking accurate measurements is straightforward. Let us walk you through the process!

To ensure a perfect fit, keep these essential pointers in mind:

  • Always use a metal measuring tape for the best accuracy; fabric tapes can stretch and lead to errors.
  • If your width measurement falls on a 1/16" or 1/32" mark, round down to the nearest 1/8".
  • If your height measurement lands on a 1/16" or 1/32" increment, round up to the closest 1/8".
  • Always consult the Product Specifications for the product you are measuring for. If you have questions, we will be happy to help!

Instructions for Inside Mounted Roller Shades

Depth Requirements: For an inside mount, you'll need to make sure the window frame is deep enough to accommodate the roller shade. Refer to the Product Specifications for minimum depths depending on your chosen valance option.

Measuring the width

  • The width measurement is found by measuring the inside of the window frame in three locations: the top, middle, and bottom.
  • Choose the smallest of these measurements.
  • If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment, round down to the nearest 1/8".
  • That's your width for your roller shades.

Measuring the height

  • The height measurement is found by measuring the inside of the window frame in three locations: the left, center, and right.
  • Choose the largest of these measurements.
  • If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment, round up to the nearest 1/8".
  • That's your height for your roller shades.
Do not make any deductions. The factory will make a small deduction to ensure the roller mechanism fits inside your window frame. If you would like more light coverage, an outside mount will minimize any potential light gaps.

Instructions for Outside Mounted Roller Shades

An outside mount sits outside of the window and the window frame. Because it is meant to cover the entire space of the window, you'll need to make some additions to the measurements to make sure you order the right size. Please follow the instructions below.

Measuring the width

  • Measure the width of the area you want the shade to cover across the top.
  • We suggest adding at least 4 inches to the width (2 inches per side) to minimize light gaps.
  • That's your width for your roller shades.

Measuring the height

  • Measure the height from where you want the headrail to sit down to the window sill or desired length.
  • We suggest adding at least 4 inches to the height (2 inches top, 2 inches bottom).
  • That's your height for your roller shades.
