What they are not is a print. A wood-look roller shade is a photograph of a weave on polyester, and it reads flat in daylight. These are the actual reeds and grasses, so the light coming through has depth and the texture changes as the sun moves.

Each carries an integrated valance as standard – six inches deep on the cordless builds – covering the headrail and finishing the top of the window without a separate accessory to choose.

Light, Privacy and the Liner Question

A woven wood shade is unlined by default. That is deliberate, and it is the whole aesthetic – light passes between the fibres and makes the weave glow, which is what you are buying. Unlined also means semi-privacy, not full privacy. During the day the weave softens sunlight and obscures the view inside. After dark, with lights on inside, the room becomes the brighter side and the weave will show silhouettes.

For a living room or a sunroom that is exactly right. For a bedroom, a ground-floor window onto a street, or a room you want dark in the morning, the Signature build now takes a liner:

• Privacy liner closes the weave so the room is not visible from outside after dark, while still passing soft, diffused light during the day.
• Room darkening liner goes further and takes out most of the daylight. Room darkening is not blackout – expect a dim room rather than a dark one, with light still arriving around the edges of the shade.

A liner does change the look. Backlit glow is what you give up: a lined weave reads as texture on the window rather than as light coming through it. If you want glow in the living room and darkness in the bedroom, order unlined for one and lined for the other rather than compromising on both.

One practical note either way: because the shade hangs in front of the glass rather than sealing to it, an outside mount with a few inches of overlap on each side noticeably reduces light gaps. With a room darkening liner that is the difference between dim and properly dark. For true blackout, layer a blackout shade behind the weave.

Wicker-Look Woven Cordless Shades are woven from natural paper fibre rather than wood, in a single warm umber. The weave is tighter and more uniform than a reed shade – closer to a wicker basket than a bamboo grove – and suits a room wanting texture without visible grain variation.

Signature Cordless Woven Wood Shades are our more premium option, and the one to look at when the other three fall short. Twenty further colourways across seven weaves, widths from 19 to 144 inches, the choice of a privacy or room darkening liner, and optional edge banding – a bound fabric border along the edges of the panel, which reads more tailored than a raw woven edge. For an opening too wide for one panel, the Signature can also be built as two or three shades on a single shared headrail, so one track spans the run while each panel still works on its own.

Natural Variation Is the Point

Every shade is made from material harvested from nature, so expect variation in colour, grain and texture. Each harvest of natural fibre is slightly different. Small cracks in bamboo reeds are normal rather than defects. No two shades are ever identical, which means two shades ordered together for the same room will be close but not matched – and a natural variance of roughly three-eighths to half an inch in finished length is normal.

If that bothers you, a printed fabric will be more predictable. If it appeals, it is the reason these look like something rather than like a product.

Where They Work, and Where They Do Not

• Living and dining rooms: the classic case. Texture and warmth against painted walls, and filtered daylight rather than a hard beam.
• Bedrooms and guest rooms: unlined is fine if you accept semi-privacy after dark; with a privacy or room darkening liner on the Signature build, a bedroom works properly.
• Wide openings: a patio door or a wide glass wall that used to need a different product can be covered by a single Signature panel, or by two or three sharing one headrail.
• Windows flanked by drapery: a woven wood inside the frame with panels either side is a standard designer pairing, and it costs far less than the fabric Roman it resembles.

Where they are wrong: bathrooms with heavy steam and any consistently damp location – natural fibre takes on moisture and will not recover its shape once it has. A powder room is usually fine.

Measuring, Mounting and Care

The three cordless builds run 18 to 72 inches wide and 24 to 72 inches high, with the two-rail version starting at 36 inches high. The Signature build takes that from 19 inches out to 144. Measure the opening with a steel tape in three places for width and three for height, work from the narrowest width and the longest height, and give us the raw opening figure – we take the deduction. If your opening needs more than one panel, decide before you order. A two-on-one or three-on-one headrail is a special-order build, and panels made as a set match far better than two shades ordered separately.

Dust with a vacuum brush on low suction or a soft dry cloth, working along the weave rather than against it. Natural fibre should not be soaked, steamed or scrubbed: a damp cloth used sparingly on a mark and dried immediately is as wet as these should ever get.
